Above distances are for the championship Old course. Also at Formby Hall is the excellently crafted nine-hole Woodhey Dunes short course (par-27; 1395 yds from back tees). This fun and challenging par-3 course has plenty of water in play, not least at the island-green second. Each hole has three sets of tees.

Formby Hall
Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa: laid out in what were the grounds of historic Formby Hall, here you'll find a good-quality and flattish course, imbued with plenty of golfing challenge. This parkland layout provides an enjoyable and no-less challenging alternative to the more renowned seaside links courses on the other side of the Liverpool-Southport road (e.g. Formby, Hillside, West Lancs and Royal Birkdale).
Mid-sized trees, rather than big sand dunes, break-up the reasonably open terrain. The (at times) tightish fairways and mercurially-sloping greens are a tad softer than you'll find on the layout's linksland cousins.
Resonating with its neighbours, Formby Hall is also home to many links-style revetted bunkers, which provide one of the main hazards on this otherwise parkland-style layout. These excellent and often quite deep bunkers (many pot bunkers among them) provide good definition to the holes and solid defences around the greens.
In addition to the characterful bunkering, water hazards are also a significant factor (and also home to many water birds) especially on the more varied back-nine. From the par-4 10th and 11th holes you'll get glimpses of the old Formby Hall.

Formby Hall Golf Resort is laid out in the grounds of what, for over 800 years, was the ancestral home of the Formby family. The family's "castellated" mansion house, which can be glimpsed from the par-4 10th and 11th holes, was originally built in 1523 for William Formby. This now private residence, includes "battlements" that are example of the "Strawberry Hill Gothic" style of architecture.
