Headingley Golf Club is home to a course that further adds to West Yorkshire's enviable reputation for top quality golf courses. Located in a quiet rural environment to the north of Leeds, it's near neighbour's include other revered layouts such as Alwoodley, Moortown and Sand Moor. As for variety, at Headingley you get a blend of parkland, heathland and moorland golf ... all in one!
Headingley's credentials are solidly underpinned by those who crafted this absorbing layout. Two of the game’s greatest architects, Harry Colt and Dr Alister MacKenzie, both had a hand in shaping the layout that is played today.
The course sits within a quiet natural setting, with many wonderful views to enjoy, particularly from the layout's highest section in the middle of the back-nine. Several holes are lightly tree-lined by birch and pine, others are more open. At the blind downhill par-4 1st the hole is crossed by Adel Beck (directly in front of the green). The par-4 2nd takes you out into the open rural countryside, courtesy of a severly cambered fairway ... there are more ditches and more cambers to come!
The layout roams across ever-undulating terrain, stretching to over 6,500 yards off the back tees. Straightaway holes predominate. Doglegging holes are less in evidence, but they do have a standard-bearer in the excellent elevated-tee to elevated-green par-4 18th. The shorter inward-nine, arguably contains the most variety, with water ditches, elevation changes, lovely views, and three excellent par-3s to enjoy.
Pick of the holes: hard to forget the beautifully framed par-3 17th, which offers nothing but trouble should you miss the green. The short uphill par-3 13th is also a gem.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.

Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.

It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
