Isle of Purbeck
Isle of Purbeck Golf Club: Occupying its lofty perch and wonderfully natural setting on the Isle of Purbeck hills, the views from just about every hole on this heathland golf course are simply stunning. Whether you are looking across Poole Harbour to the Dorset countryside beyond, along the Studland Bay coast to Bournemouth, or across to the Solent and the Isle of Wight, panoramic vistas are all around.
If your objectives include more than just sight-seeing, then you'll need to pay attention to this constantly challenging layout, especially if the wind is getting in on the act, as it often does. The good-width and often undulating fairways are frequently bordered by deep grass and/or heathery rough. Gorse bushes are also much in evidence, and like the rest of the rough, well worth avoiding.
The conditioning of the fairways here has been known to be variable. But at this wonderfully scenic and exposed-to-the-elements location, a highly manicured parkland course is not necessarily what you'd expect to find.
Pick of the holes: hard to forget the par-4 5th (Agglestone), which offers one of the finest views in Engish golf, situated as it is, on a Bronze Age burial ground over 3,000 years old. The par-3 11th (The Island) may look intimidating from the tee, with a crater-like bunker guarding the front left of the green, but the two-tier putting surface is actually easier to find than you may think.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Founded in 1982, and at one time called the Studland Bay Golf Club, the club's most famous former owner was the famous children's story book writer, Enid Blyton. During the period she and her husband Dr Darrell-Waters owned the club, the 9-hole course was added. The modern clubhouse not only provides a terrific vantage point to take in the panoramic views, it is also a place where excellent food can be enjoyed before and after your round.
