Puttenham Golf Club

Unrated: Well regarded course not yet visited by the Where2Golf team.

Est. 1894

Puttenham Golf Club: located just a couple of miles southwest of the cathedral city of Guildford, you'll find another of Surrey's classic heathland gems. Not overly long at just over 6,100 yards from the tips, there's several short par-4s for long-hitters to tilt at, although accuracy from the tee will serve your cause just as well.

On this out-and-back layout, you'll not only brush past Puttenham cricket ground on the left of the par-4 2nd, but you'll also be guided by plenty of fairway-lining heather and tall elegant Scots pine. The greens here, not overly large and often circular, will deftly test you skills with the short stick.

Did you know?

Lying halfway between the town of Farnham to the west, and city of Guildford to the east, the village of Puttenham sits just below the Hog's Back, one of the the narrowest sections of the North Downs. Close to the golf is an opulent and now private mansion house, Puttenham Priory, which originally dates from 1266.

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
