Seacroft Golf Club: this classic coastal links golf course offers the intriguing opportunity to take a trip south from Skegness, turn at the par-3 10th in Gibraltar, and then return north to "Skegvegas" (as the town is sometimes called). The Gibraltar in question is Gibraltar Point and the National Nature Reserve of that name, which forms the course's southern boundary.
After the first four holes at Seacroft, the row of neat houses on your right comes to an end and this wonderfully straightforward and natural links course carries on its way, in classic out-and-back tradition. Here you'll find excellent bunkering, occasional sea-views and large well-kept greens. Also noteworthy is the central spine of grassy sand dunes separating the front and back nines.
You will require your A-game to stay on the short grass and away from the punishing rough. The fairways here are never overly wide; "underly narrow" might be a better description. The long flagsticks testify to the often windy conditions here, but then you are next to Skegness, and yes, it can be "so bracing".
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.

Adjoining the course at its southern end is the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve, which stretches south from the golf course to the sandy headland of Gibraltar Point. A great place for walkers, naturalists and bird-spotters.

Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
