Tadmarton Heath Golf Club; from its charming wisteria-covered clubhouse, and the holes around it, you'll enjoy wonderful views over the rolling hills of Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, which stretch away as far as the eye can see.
Sitting at the top of Rye Hill, this relatively compact course plays with a lot less elevation change than you may at first think. Not overly long at just over 6,000 yards from the tips, there's quite a few short par-4s and par-3s to help your score along.
The layout's heathland credentials are solidly reinforced by an abundance of gorse bushes lining the generally good-width holes. From the tee greater accuracy is demanded at some holes, especially on what many would say is the tighter and occasionally quirkier back-nine. The short par-4 15th and 17th are two such shot-maker's holes. The par-4 11th also needs care, as it doglegs around and over the par-4 9th green.
Never overly large, the old-style subtly-sloping greens provide an enjoyable test for your skills with the "short stick". The bunkering is solid without being constantly threatening, and overall presentation standards are excellent. The club also boasts a very scenic practice range.
Pick of the holes: the finest views come at the opening par-4 1st (tee) and par-4 2nd (green), and most notably at the clubhouse-hugging green of the signature par-3 7th. The par-4 8th and par-4 18th also offer Tadmarton's beautiful east-facing vista.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekend afternoons.

Tadmarton Heath GC lies just a few miles southwest of the historic Oxfordshire market town of Banbury. Located alongside Tadmarton Heath is the parkland golf course of the less well-known Rye Hill Golf Club.
Well worth a visit, there's plenty to see in Banbury. Most famous of all, is the Banbury Cross monument ("Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross, to see a fine lady upon a white horse ... ). The said fine lady appears on the golf club's logo! Banbury is also home to the 16th century Reindeer Inn (as used by Oliver Cromwell), several other historic buildings, and a stretch of the Oxford Canal that passes through the town.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
