The Dorset Golf, Country Club & Resort (Lakeland/Parkland course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1991

The Dorset Golf, Country Club & Resort (Lakeland/Parkland course): Between Wareham and Bere Regis is a spectacular piece of heathland, best known as the location of the Bovington tank training ground. More recently the heathland has also become home to the Dorset Golf & Country Club, comprising the Lakeland/Parkland championship course, and the additional Woodland-nine.

Water is an ever-present danger on this testing Martin Hawtree layout, as are clusters of gorse bushes that also line the generous width fairways. Hawtree is renowned for his tricky clover shaped bunkers and large and deceptive undulating greens, which is what you will find here at The Dorset. Occasional signs of wear and tear on this popular and heavily played course do not detract from the layout's undoubted quality and interest.

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
