Locally-based golf course architect Adrian Stiff designed the Codrington course (2002) and subsequently the Stranahan course (2010).

4 mi SE of Chipping Sodbury / 12 mi N of Bath / 12 mi NE of Bristol.
Leave the M4 at exit 18 (A46 / Bath). Follow the A46 north direction Chipping Sodbury / Badminton (i.e. away from Bath). After 200 yards turn left onto the B4465 direction Codrington. After 1.3 miles golf entrance is on your right.
Players Club (Codrington)
The Players Club (Codrington course): this ambitious, exciting and (once you get to know it) rewarding course, is one of two 18-hole layouts at the relatively inexpensive, busy and popular Players Club. Most of the original Championship course at The Players (in fact 15 of the original 18 holes) were subsumed into the Codrington course in 2010. At the same time designer Adrian Stiff was commissioned to add a second 18-holes, the shorter Stranahan course.
Much of the Codrington course occupies gently undulating and relatively open terrain, with an abundance of water hazards to be carefully negotiated in the lower sections of the layout. Good-quality bunkering, particularly greenside, also requires your attention. The greens are excellent, often large and full of inventive slopes and run-offs. At the 9th for example, the putting surface is a mere 35 yards deep, but 54 yards wide!
Although recent tree-planting on sections of the course has yet to fully develop, the occasional presence of gorse bushes, proximity of older woodland and pleasing views onto partly wooded rural countryside, gives the course a pleasantly mature feel beyond its actual years.
Although some of the driving lines are not as clear as you'd like them to be, especially on a first outing, this is a course that grows on you the more you play it ... challenging but fair. The two nine-hole loops contain an excellent collection of par-3s, with water dangerously in play on all four of them.

It is still possible at certain times and upon application, to play the original Championship course at The Players Club. Built with top-level tournament golf in mind, the Championship course stretches to 7,617 yards from the tips. The layout comprises 15 holes that are now part of the Codrington course, as well as one from the Stranahan course (the 17th, which was the original Championship's 2nd hole), and two retained holes from the original layout (old 3rd and the current 7th & 8th combined).

Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7).
After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour.
