The West Berkshire Golf Club

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1975

West Berkshire Golf Club is home to a relatively young and very pleasant parkland course, which offers fine views over the surrounding Berkshire Downs. One or two of the par-5s have been described as lacklustre, unspectacular and overly long, but the tree-planting of 20 years ago is really beginning to add to the maturity and character of the course.

Most of the time you can take aim at generous width and flattish fairways from the tee. There are many interesting holes, and several of the par-5s are long: the 1st measures 574 yds, the 5th 627 yds, the 9th 556 yds, the 13th 491 yds and the 16th 595 yds. It's no wonder the course stretches to over 7000 yards from the back tees.

Although not yet recognised as one of the south of England's hidden gems, this is still a course that lays down a good test and is well worth a visit.

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
