TPC Sawgrass (Dye's Valley course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

TPC Sawgrass (Dye's Valley course): As you might expect from the flagship Tournament Players Club and home of the PGA Tour, the two courses here at Sawgrass are world-class. The Valley course, now known as Dye's Valley course, is another top-quality and magnificently designed Pete Dye layout. It impressively complements TPC Sawgrass's more famous Stadium course.

Occupying nicely rolling terrain, the two nine-hole loops of Dye's Valley course meander through a quiet and picturesque setting. At times tree-lined, at others more open (especially when water is present), the front-nine follows a clockwise routing, while the back-nine runs counter-clockwise. To get round with a respectable score you'll need a clear game plan and good shot-making, without them several balls are likely to be consigned to a watery end.

Many of the Valley's good-width undulating fairways are flanked by expansive and threatening ponds on one side. On the other you'll find mountainous, gallery-friendly earth mounds. Several of the large and undulating greens are butted up against the water's edge, not least at the par-3 5th, the gently dog-legging par-4 6th and the par-4 9th on the front-nine. Similar watery dangers are posed at the par-3 11th and wonderful par-5 16th on the back-nine.

As on the Stadium course, the green-surrounds (when not flanked by water) comprise an intimidating mix of himalayan moguls, bunkers of every shape and size, slick run-off areas and deep unforgiving rough. With mansion-sized housing set well back from the playing areas (usually across the ponds), the Dye's Valley course is characterised by 18 excellently presented and challenging golf holes.

Did you know?

The Tournament Players Club (TPC) was the culmination of PGA Commissioner Deane Beman's long-held vision to create a "home club" for members of the PGA Tour. The two courses at TPC Sawgrass were built for top-level tournament golf, including amphitheatre-like mounding which provides excellent viewing galleries for spectators, a concept common to other TPCs in the USA.

TPC Sawgrass has been a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System since its opening and continues to work diligently protecting its wildlife.

TPC Sawgrass is home to another TPC - The Players Championship, which is played annually on the Stadium course. It is one of the PGA Tour's biggest events. (See our Tournaments section >by Venue >TPC Sawgrass).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
