18 holes. Tree-lined & open parkland. Relatively flat terrain - easy to walk, until 16, 17 and 18, which are hilly.
Surroundings:
Woodland (Forêt de Chantilly).
Designer:
Original 18-hole Chantilly design by John Henry "J.H." Taylor (1909); several of his hole routings are reflected in today's Vineuil and Longères courses. The Vineuil course was renovated and redesigned after WW1 by Tom Simpson (1920). Of today's current Vineuil layout, Simpson can be credited with holes 3, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13 & 14. Later changes made to the Vineuil by Martin Hawtree (2017) included the design of holes 9, 10 & 11.
Above distances are for the Vineuil course. Also at Golf de Chantilly is the 18-hole Longères course (par-73; 6391 m from back tees; rating 73.2).

Golf de Chantilly's Vineuil course (also known as the "Old Course") is a true “aristocrat” of French golf, widely regarded as one of the country's finest layouts. Located just over a kilometre from the sumptuous Château de Chantilly, the mix of open parkland and tree-lined holes are laid out on gently undulating terrain, surrounded by the Forêt de Chantilly.
At this prestigious and much revered club, the out-and-back course is full of understated excellence, with a big dash of old world charm. Here you'll find some of the best putting surfaces and green complexes on any course around Paris. The immaculately maintained, large testing greens are fronted by equally impressive aprons.
Easy to walk (until the final trio of holes), the gently rolling layout offers generally good width fairways, defended by plenty of stylish bunkering. Water hazards don't play any part in proceedings, and that perennial heathland duo, heather and gorse, are also absent. Chantilly's courses are certainly of the parkland genre ... tree-lined in parts, more open in others.
Here at Chantilly you can enjoy the special atmosphere of a wonderfully quiet woodland environment, on a revered parkland golf course that blends many open as well as tree-lined stretches. Immediately to the east is the Dolce Chantilly resort and golf course, but you'll not be aware of its presence on the other side of a thick band of trees and bushes.
Pick of the holes: created in Chantilly's modern era by Martin Hawtree, the 11th is simply sublime. On this exquisite mid-length par-3, the green complex is beautifully mounded and bunker-defended.
And you'll not easily forget the 16-17-18 trio ... a surprise package in terms of elevation changes. These three closing holes capture the greatest amount of elevation change on the course, courtesy of a small ravine that threads its way through them. Both the 16th and 18th greens (as well as the Longères course's 9th and 18th greens) sit snuggly in front of the distinctive clubhouse.
Vineuil course: visitors welcome on weekdays (not weekends). Longères course generally a members' course; not usually open to visitors. Club closed on Thursdays.
Must book in advance. Proof of handicap required.

Good
Chantilly's Vineuil course has hosted many top level tournaments, including several French Open Championships. For more details see: Top Golf Tournaments at Golf de Chantilly.
Golf de Chantilly's club crest features two items well-known to the area ... a hunting horn and "tilleul" trees (in English, linden or lime trees). The Vineuil course takes its name from the neighbouring village of Vineuil-Saint-Firmin. The second course is named (we assume) after a longère ... a long, narrow, single-storey farmhouse building.
The town of Chantilly is world renowned for the stunning Château de Chantilly, once home to the Prince's of Condé, cousins of the Kings of France. The palace is now home to the Museum Condé. Chantilly is also famous for its horse racing circuit, which hosts two of France's biggest horse racing events ... the French Derby and French Oaks. The town also lends its name to Chantilly (whipped) cream and beautiful Chantilly lace.

Continental Europe's 11th best course (Golf World, 2025).

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
