Golf de la Grande Motte

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1987

Golf de la Grande Motte: The bustling seaside town of La Grande Motte is located on the western edge of the Petite Carmargue. Here golfers are provided with excellent facilities to improve their skills, and test themselves against an excellent quality championship course.

The 18-hole Flamants Roses (pink flamingos) course was designed by legendary golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones. It is complemented by the 18-hole par-58 Goelands (large seagulls) course and the Executive 9-hole Mouettes (smaller seagulls) course. The Flamants Roses is laid out on relatively flat terrain, set back from the sea, and has all the look and feel of a classic Florida resort course.

The relatively flat and open terrain of Flamants Roses has been nicely sculpted, mounded and bunkered to produce an attractive 18-hole challenge. It's certainly a cut above the average European resort course.

As with most Florida-style layouts, there's plenty of water in play (but thankfully no alligators!). Many small lakes and ponds skirt the fairways and protect the greens. The pick of the par-3s is the 5th, a short hole played to a small well-bunkered green, surrounded on three sides by water.

Umbrella pines and poplars add good definition to several fairways, while holiday villas line a few holes on the perimeter. Most of the course is contained within its own very pleasant golfing environment, where maintenance standards are generally excellent.

La Grande Motte lies on the western edge of the Camargue region of southern France, one-third of which comprises either lakes or marshland. The Carmargue is located between the Mediterranean Sea and the two arms of the River Rhône delta (western Europe's largest river delta). Administratively the Carmargue lies within the département of Bouches-du-Rhône, the aptly named "Mouths of the Rhône". The eastern arm of the Rhône delta is called the Grand Rhône, the western arm, the Petit Rhône.

La Grand Motte's Flamants Roses course has played host to past European Tour events. For more details view Top golf tournaments at Golf de La Grande Motte.
