From the A39 motorway between Dole and Bourg-en-Bresse, take exit 8 and follow the D678, direction Lons-le-Saunier. In Lons follow the D117, direction Macornay. After approx 3 km, turn left in Macornay onto the Rte de Bellecombe. After 1.8 km turn left into Domaine du Val de Sorne.
Golf du Val de Sorne: Occupying a wonderfully quiet and scenic location in the foothills of the Jura mountains, this challengingly laid out golf course will test and delight golfers of all abilities. At times demandingly tight, at others less so, the constant elevation changes create many elevated tees and greens, a few blind shots and immensely picturesque views onto the surrounding rural idyll.
Hugues Lambert has crafted many excellent holes, with precision driving required on several occasions. A mainly undulating and tree-lined front-nine, flattens out at the turn, with the par-5 10th, long par-3 11th and short par-4 12th played alongside the Sorne - more of a burbling stream than full-blooded river.
The layout's scenic climax comes after a demanding climb at the par-4 13th and long, uphill 14th. Known as the "hole of the four churches", the dog-legging par-5 14th gives you the chance to inspect local vineyards, count the churches on your way up and look out over the fabulous valley. The view on your way back down at the plunging par-3 15th and very testing, water defended par-4 16th is stunning - rural France at its best. The partly wooded hills are complemented by the neighbouring village of Moiron, which delightfully graces the backdrop on the closing stretch.
At over 6800 yards from the tips and with often smallish, circular greens, good greenside bunkering and a great collection of testing par-3s, Val de Sorne is well worth the stopover if you are in the area or travelling the Dijon-Lyon motorway, just 15 km away.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour.
