Nicklaus (USA) won his sixth (and third straight) PGA Tour leading money winner title, with 1973 season earnings of $308,362 on the Tour. Bruce Crampton (Aus) was second with $274,266; Tom Weiskopf (USA) was third with $245,463.
Ginn (Aus) won the inaugural Australia/NZ Tour Order of Merit.

Using a season-long points system, Oosterhuis accumulated 3440.42 pts; Maurice Bembridge (Eng) was second with 2980.14 pts; Hugh Baiocchi (RSA) was third with 2904.35 pts. Tony Jacklin (Eng) topped the Tour's 1973 Prize Money List with £24,839; Peter Oosterhuis (Eng) was second with £17,454; Neil Coles (Eng) was third with £14,747.

Elson (Eng) won the European Tour 1973 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award as the leading first-season player. Elson finished 50th on the Tour's (points-based) Order of Merit; he won £2,133 in prize money during the season.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
