29-year-old Patrick Cantlay (USA) won the PGA Tour's final event of the season, the Tour Championship (Sept 2-5), and with it the 2020-21 FedEx Cup and $15 million first prize. Jon Rahm (Esp) was second, 1 shot behind Cantlay, and collected $5 million. Kevin Na (USA) was 5 shots further back in third, worth $4 million.

Joohyung Kim (S Kor) recorded the 2020/21 season's lowest scoring average (68.70) on the Asian Tour. Wade Ormsby (Aus) was second with 68.96; Ryosuke Kinoshita (Jpn) was third with 69.43. Note: the Asian Tour 2020/21 season comprised only eight events, which included the first two events of 2022 (Singapore Intl and Singapore Open); all events were cancelled from mid-March 2020 until late-Nov 2021 due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

19-year-old Joohyung Kim (S Kor) won the Asian Tour wrap-around 2020/21 Order of Merit with earnings of $507,553 on the Tour. Sadom Kaewkanjana (Thai) was second with $378,972; Wade Ormsby (Aus) was third with $270,153. Kim was the second youngest golfer to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit, after Seungyul Noh, also 19 and a month younger, won it in 2003. Note: the Asian Tour 2020/21 season comprised only eight events, which included the first two events of 2022 (Singapore Intl and Singapore Open); all events were cancelled from mid-March 2020 until late-Nov 2021 due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

46-year-old Brad Kennedy (Aus) won the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia 2020/21 Order of Merit, with season earnings of A$302,480 on the Tour. Min Wo Lee (Aus) was second with A$253,327; Ryan Fox (Aus) was third with A$168,882. Note: Due to the global cornavirus pandemic, the Aus Tour 2020/21 season comprised only four official Order of Merit events in Feb/March 2020 and seven in Jan-March 2021. Kennedy won two of the eleven events played.

Race to Dubai
24-year-old Collin Morikawa (USA) received the Harry Vardon Trophy and a US$2 million bonus as the European Tour 2021 Order of Merit (Race to Dubai) winner. He accumulated 5856.4 points during the season (points equate to euros won divided by 1000, with Eurpn Tr winnings paid in $ or £ converted to euros). Second was Billy Horschel (USA) with 3716.2 pts, plus bonus of $1,200,000. Third was John Rahm (Esp) with 3402.5 pts, who was ineligible for the third place share of the bonus pool ($700,000), having missed the DP World Tour Championship ... the Tour's final event. Morikawa became the first American to win the European Tour's season-long Order of Merit.

2021/22 Sunshine Tour Order of Merit (and associated Sid Brews Trophy) won by Shaun Norris (RSA) with season earnings of R4,890,993. Second was Dean Burmester (RSA) with R4,196,181. Third was Thriston Lawrence (RSA) with R3,854,950. Note: the 2021/22 Sunshine Tour OOM was based on tournaments held between March 2021 thru' May 1, 2022.

Tiger Woods (USA) finished atop the PGA Tour's inaugural Player Impact Programme, as the player who generated the most positive interest in the PGA Tour during 2021. He received a bonus payment of $8 million. Phil Mickelson (USA) was second and received $6 million. Eight other players shared lower but still significant amounts from the PGA Tour's $40 million PIP bonus pool.
Jon Rahm (Esp) won the Seve Ballesteros Award as the 2021 Player of the Year on the European (DP World) Tour, based on the votes of his peers. Rahm received the award for the second time in three years. Note: For the first time, the award combined the former Golfer of the Year Award (determined by a panel of Tour representatives, golf writers, and TV and radio commentators) and the Player's Player of the Year Award (voted for by the players).

24-year-old Matthias "Matti" Schmid (Ger) was selected as the 2021 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year and leading first-season player by the European Tour's Tournament Committee. He finished 114th on the European Tour's Order of Merit (Race to Dubai), accumulating 399 points, and prize-money of €213,176 during the season. Schmid turned professional after winning the amateur's Silver Medal at the Open Championship in July. He secured his Tour playing rights for 2022 in just three months after turning professional.

25-year-old Will Zalatoris (USA) won the PGA Tour 2021 Rookie of the Year Award (Arnold Palmer Award), based on the votes of his peers. Zalatoris joined the PGA Tour as a special temporary member in November 2021. He did not feature in the 2021 FedEx Cup standings or the Tour's money list.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
