The Delhi Golf Club

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1931

Delhi Golf Club is home to an old and much revered parkland layout called the Lodhi course. It is kept company by the nine-hole Peacock course. As the main standard bearer for golf in India, the verdantly tree-lined Lodhi has played host to more Indian professional and amateur tournaments than you can count ... and not least, numerous Indian Opens and Indian Women's Opens.

Here in the layout's forested setting, you'll also discover a mix of testing straightaway and doglegging holes. The generally good-width fairways (with quite a few tighter exceptions) weave their way through dense woodland towards attractively bunker-defended greens.

First built in 1931, the course is located just 3 km from the centre of New Delhi and its impressive historic attractions. Within the golf course, you can discover Tughlaq dynasty (1320-1413) and Lodi dynasty (1451-1526) monuments. Renovated by two greats of the game, Peter Thompson in 1977 and then Gary Player in 2019, this very pleasant golf oasis is also home to an extraordinary variety of over 300 species of birds.

New Delhi (population c.300,000) is a relatively small but important suburb of the sprawling metropolis of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi (population 29 million). New Delhi became India's capital city in 1911, and was inaugurated as such in 1931. It took over from Calcutta (now Kolkata) as the nation's capital.
