Bintan Lagoon resort (Sea View course): Bintan Lagoon's GOLF COURSES CLOSED IN 2020 due to insolvency. The closure is possibly permanent, although the accommodations and non-golf resort facilities are expected to reopen as the Mövenpick Bintan Lagoon Resort in late-2024. Check for current status before planning a visit.
[Original Where2Golf description]: Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the Sea View course at Bintan Lagoon Resort provides a wonderful mix of jungle-lined golf on the front-nine, with a chance to briefly get alongside the South China Sea on the back-nine. The layout's companion Woodlands course, a tougher, tighter and more undulating design by Baker-Finch (Woodlands), doesn't contain quite so much diversity, or the sea views, as found on the Nicklaus layout.
The opening holes on Sea View initially head inland, taking you through a naturally undulating jungle environment, and some handsomely crafted holes. Supporting the often large and expansive Nicklaus trade-mark bunkering, three small lakes ensure that water also poses a threat - especially at the short par-4 1st, par-5 5th and par-4 6th. The very enjoyable front-nine brings you back down to the attractive clubhouse, while also providing glimpses of the sea views to come.
From the immensely scenic tee-box of the par-5 11th, you start your short downhill journey towards the sea. One hole later, at the par-3 12th, you'll find yourself looking across the beach and out onto the South China Sea. All to quickly though you head back inland courtesy of the par-4 13th, which rubs shoulders with a hole on the neighbouring Ria Bintan course.
Small ponds ensure the threat of water makes a serious return on the closing four holes. The par-3 15th requires a carry over a small lake, while the par-5 16th and par-4 17th are tightly wrapped around the same small lake, a potential disaster-zone for hookers of the ball. The par-4 18th brings together, in one spectacular view, all the essential elements of the Sea View layout - excellent bunkering, water threateningly in play, a splendid clubhouse ... and of course, a sea view.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
