Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links (formerly known as Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links): built on classic seaside duneland terrain, the Jameson Links lays down a wonderful test of seaside golf. Crafted by leading golfer and course designer Bernhard Langer, and later reworked in 2022, the course sits just above its more renowned neighbour - the 27-hole Portmarnock Golf Club.
Originally established in the mid-1990s, the Portmarnock Links Hotel quickly assumed its place amongst an enviable array of top quality Stay&Play golf venues in the Dublin area. Whereas Langer's original Portmarnock Links layout had you tucked in behind the dunes, with the Irish Sea largely hidden, the recent revamp (now branded as the Jameson Links), has raised several of the tee and green sites, allowing more opportunities to enjoy those Irish Sea vistas
The first seven holes of this out-and-back layout are played farthest from the sea. They will hone your game as you prepare to take on the stiffer challenges of the back-nine, not least when you get into the taller sand dunes bordering the sea. Langer's skilful original design contains many excellent holes, not least the closing par 4-3-4 trio, which return you to the resort hotel, formerly the residence of the Jameson family (of whiskey fame).
Air traffic on its way into Dublin International airport may occasionally pass overhead, but should certainly not disturb your enjoyment of this highly rated championship links course.
Pick of the holes: the 9th and 15th are two wonderful short par-3s that face towards the sea, their respective greens raised up to offer wonderful sea views.

To the north east of Dublin lie the Howth and Portmarnock peninsulas. The latter, with the Irish Sea on one side and Baldoyle estuary on the other, is almost entirely occupied by two excellent links courses.
The southern section of the 2-mile long peninsula is home to the 27-holes of the famed Portmarnock Golf Club. Above it, and 100 years younger, sits the Portmarnock Resort's Jameson Links. Both courses occupy sandy links terrain, which was originally part of the Jameson Estate ... the domain of the famous Irish whiskey-making family.
Portmarnock Resort's Jameson Links has hosted many top level competitions, including the Ladies Irish Open on two occasions. For more details see Top Golf Tournaments at Portmarnock Links.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
