Vipingo Ridge Resort (Baobab course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2009

Vipingo Ridge Resort is home to a highly-rated tree-lined parkland layout known as the Baobab course (it is the only course here). This Kenyan Stay&Play opportunity is located a three kilometres inland from the coast, close to the village of Kikambala, a full hour's drive north of Mombasa.

Built to PGA championship standards, it is the newest golf course on the Kenyan coast. The two nine-loops head south from the modern clubhouse, with plenty of red-sand bunkering and a few small ponds to be wary of along the way. And don't be surprised to see some of the local residents dropping in to watch you play ... these might include giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, oryx and water buck.

Stay&Play at Vipingo Ridge: onsite accommodation available, see Where2Stay section below.

Did you know?

Vipingo's secure, walled estate provides a safe sanctuary for the estate's wildlife. Eleven specially trained rangers monitor and protect the animals, ensuring there is a positive symbiosis between them, the environment and Vipingo Ridge’s members and guests.

Vipingo Ridge's Baobab course is named after the iconic baobab tree, an important multipurpose food tree of the semi-arid and sub-humid zones of sub-Saharan Africa. The long-living baobab tree has a short swollen trunk, wide-spreading branches and a large round canopy.

Almost all parts of the baobab are useful for human life, especially the fruit and leaves. The whitish fruit pulp has five times the vitamin C concentration of oranges and is also high in several vital minerals.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
