Where2Golf says:

Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah: Known locally as KGSAAS, this 27-hole floodlit layout is connected to royalty not only through its name (see Did You Know section). In addition, its designer, 5-times Open Champion, Peter Thomson, is one of the "kings" of the game. His constantly undulating layout here comprises three nine-hole loops (President, Sultan and Alam Shah), each of which shelves away from the clubhouse, before climbing back to it. Laid out on constantly undulating terrain, this parkland course is always challenging without being overly dramatic or especially scenic, although there is always something of interest to look at beyond the course perimeter (see Did You Know). Inside the course, Thomson's trademark pot bunkers, rolling fairways and medium-to-large elevated greens all feature strongly. Top level competitions normally use the Sultan / Alam Shah nines, ensuring competitors are tested on the fabulous par-5 Dragon Hole (No.2 on Sultan). This signature hole is played from a slightly elevated tee onto a narrow fairway, with the second shot requiring a carry over a wide-ish creek, before climbing to an elevated and well-bunkered green. These testing characteristics are repeated on many other holes, although perhaps not as fiercely as on the Dragon, and often with a tad more fairway width. The three nines contain an excellent collection of par-3's, where water or elevation changes are used to good effect. Maintenance standards are generally good without necessarily being immaculate, although the greens here are some of the truest and fastest you'll putt on in Malaysia.

Did you know?

Located within the scenic enclaves of the Royal City of Shah Alam, Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah is usually abbreviated to "KG-SAAS". The full name translates as follows : Kelab Golf in Malaysian simply means Golf Club. Sultan is the title given to the hereditary ruler (king) of each of the states that make up Malaysia. (More precisely 9 of the 13 states have Sultans, four have Governors). Abdul Aziz Shah was the Sultan of Selangor in 1992 when the golf course was built and opened. He was himself a keen golfer and saw the need for an international championship course within the city. One of the nine hole loops at KGSAAS carries the name of Abdul Aziz Shah's son, Alam Shah, who is the current Sultan of Selangor. >> KGSAAS, the "home of night golfing", offers 27-holes of floodlit golf - the world's first golf club to do so. >> Downtown KL, the Petronas Twin Towers, Selangor's modern football stadium and a colourful private college all feature as you journey round the President's nine, while smart villas and the impressive blue-domed Selangor state mosque are in view on the absorbing Alam Shah nine.
