Palm Garden Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1993

Palm Garden Golf Club: Part of the IOI Resort City, Palm Garden originally offered 27 holes of championship golf. In 2009 the layout was scaled back to 18 holes, and at the same time substantially improved. The IOI-nine was divested for residential development, while the Putra and Palm nines were transformed into the current Eugenia and Bismarck nines.

The front-nine loop (Eugenia) presents a pleasant palm-lined parkland environment, with not insignificant elevation changes. After a relatively easy-going start, played under the watchful gaze of the Puteri Palma apartment blocks, things ramp-up at the straight par-5 4th ... OB flanks the rightside of this hole, and water needs to be crossed in front of the green.

There's not too much more water on the front-nine, as you play up to and away from the same condo blocks you saw at the beginning. The presence of water increases as you get into the back-nine loop, becoming a constant threat from the par-5 13th onward.

The culmination of a collection of small ponds on the back-nine, comes at the island-green par-17th and the peninsula-green of the attractive par-4 18th. Both holes make full use of the same small lake.

With various hi-rise blocks, electricity pylons, and some busy roads beyond the course boundaries, you'll not get the feeling you've escaped from KL's urban embrace. But the Parslow-Winter revamp of Palm Garden will give you plenty of golfing challenges to shift your focus from the bustle of city life.

Tournaments

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.

Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.

Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.

The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.

The Dutch GC, The Netherlands

The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.

Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
