Saujana (Palm)
Saujana Golf & Country Club (Palm course): When the top tour professionals compete at Saujana, it is the longer Palm course (nicknamed "The Cobra"), rather than the tighter Bunga Raya layout ("The Crocodile") on which they try to pocket the big-money prizes.
Fream's design for the Palm is full of significant elevation changes and many excellent and testing golf holes, often with more room off the tee than offered by its tighter companion course. The splendidly laid out front-nine occupies a natural environment, where you can lose yourself amidst the palms and verdant jungle. The character of the back-nine changes somewhat, with offices, apartment blocks and a bit more "civilisation" in view, but with the layout remaining top-quality and always challenging.
In English, Saujana means "as far as the eye can see", and there's no better example than the view from the tee-box of the plunging downhill par-5 3rd where your first shot will need to carry a jungle-filled ravine. Running alongside you at this hole is the par-5 5th of neighbouring Glenmarie Golf Club.
Amongst other memorable holes, the short par-4 4th has trouble written all over it if your attempt to drive the green is wayward. The par-3 5th also demands accuracy and is played to a postage stamp of a green, with deep bunkering to left and right.
Best to play conservatively at the par-5 8th, with its stunning wall of mature palms providing the backdrop and a definite no-go zone down the left side; hitting the green is imperative with jungle right and a severe drop-off left. Arguably one of Fream's best layouts; just be careful "The Cobra" doesn't sink its fangs into you too deeply!

Excellent
The Saujana Resort was carved from a former palm oil plantation known as the Pilmore Estate. The name Saujana originates from an old Malay expression "sejauh di sana", meaning "as far as the eye can see". There's no better example of this than the view from the tee-box of the par-5 3rd on the Palm course.
The Palm course has hosted many top level professional tournaments, including Asian and European Tour events (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Saujana).
Malaysia's best courses (Golf Digest, 2022):
Saujana's Palm course ranked 9th best; Bunga Raya course ranked 16th best.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
