Royal Nepal Golf Club

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1917

Royal Nepal Golf Club: originally called the Gauchar Golf Club, and at one time boasting 36 holes, Royal Nepal is the oldest golf club in Nepal. Sitting alongside Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, RNGC has fallen victim to the airport's expansion over the years.

At occasional intervals the club lost ground to various airport infrastructure projects, eventually arriving at today's rather modest nine-hole layout ... without much in the way of clubhouse facilities.

The course has been described as a great little tree-lined parkland test, with a stream cutting through the course and several of its holes. In addition to the proximity of the airport, the course is also passed on its west side by Kathmandu's outer ring road.

Did you know?

The RNGC was established in 1917 at the Gaucharan with a 36-hole course. The government later built the Tribhuvan International Airport nearby, causing the loss of nine of the club's holes. A second phase of airport expansion cut the layout to just 13 holes, and today it operates as a nine-hole facility.

In 1965, the club received the Royal prefix from King Mahendra, the son of King Tribhuvan. The Kingdom of Nepal was founded in 1768, with its monarchs traditionally known as Maharajadhiraja, "Great King of Kings".
