The Links Valley Golfbaan: rather than revamp a decades-old nine-hole course on the "De Uller" estate, Frank Pont and the owners agreed to establish a new nine-hole course elsewhere on the estate. Inspired by the writings of legendary "Golden Age" designer Tom Simpson, Pont then had the idea to make the nine-holer reversible, thereby creating 18 different holes.
The result of Pont's innovative design (the first reversible course in Europe), is a nine-hole North course played in one direction, and the following day the South course routing takes over, and is played in the opposite direction. As such nine holes become 18, each one a different configuration and challenge than the others. To get a full appreciation (and 18-hole round) at Links Valley, it's best to play both the North and South layouts, which you can over two days.
Utilising a former sand quarry, the open links-style courses traverse the easy-draining sandy soil, with a natural Scots pine forest all around. Housing and roads you will not find, but sandy waste areas and stylish bunkering are plentiful.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Proof of handicap required.

The Links Valley is located on the Waller family's 100-year-old Ullerberg Estate ("De Uller"). For many years the estate was home to a nine-hole course with fairways of closely mown heather, and greens and tees surrounded by electric fences to keep wild boar at bay. The course was used by the family from the early-1900s.

Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
