Sherwood Park
Sherwood Park Golf Club: Pleasant wooded hills surround this lightly tree-lined and gently undulating parkland course, which starts in relatively modest fashion, but picks up, particularly as you get into the back nine.
The opening holes will attune you to tightish fairways, very limited bunkering and generally small greens. Good earthmounding and undulation is present at the excellent long par-4 4th and the returning par-4 5th.
The back nine contains some very good holes, not least the par-3 14th, which will leave you with a much better impression of Sherwood Park than the flatter and less interesting front nine.
Although many fairways appear tight, finding your ball from wayward drives is not too difficult, but more care is needed on the back nine, where OB and bushy vegetation are more in play.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Worth booking ahead to ensure tee-time availability, especially at weekends.
Walking permitted at all times. Golf carts available for hire.

Sherwood Park GC is located just outside Northland's largest city, Whangarei. Whangarei Harbour was originally known to the Maori's as Teranga Paraoa - "water in which whales run". As more European settlers arrived, it became more popularly known as Whangarei - from Whanga meaning harbour and Rei meaning cherished possession.
Located in the heart of the city is an award winning waterfront development, which is a popular haven for visiting international yachts. Incorporated in the development is the popular Claphams Clocks collection, art galleries, crafts, speciality shops, cafes and restaurants.
Whangarei Falls, located 5 km north east of the city, is known as one of the most photogenic waterfalls in New Zealand.
