Wainui
Wainui Golf Club: starting out in 1955 as the Peninsula Golf Club, the club moved from its original Red Beach location to a new 27-hole set-up in 2015. The club also underwent a name change at that time. It is now home to the 18-hole Wainui championship course and the nine-hole Orchard course, both set against an iconic New Zealand rural back drop.
The 18-hole Wainui course is laid out through a pleasantly natural environment of rolling hills and streams, the holes framed by 80-year-old pines as well as strategic bunkering.
Both the par-4 9th and 18th holes play back up to a large hour-glass double-green in front the modern two-storey clubhouse. Unusually for the holes here, both bring water into play as they close out each of the well-crafted nine-hole loops.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.

Originally located closer to the coast in Red Beach, the club moved to its current location with the new course opening in 2016. Coincident with the move, the original name of Peninsula Golf Club was changed in favour of Wainui, meaning "big water" or "big bay". The area around Wainui was occupied by British and Irish settlers in the 1850s.
