Where2Golf says:

The Carolina Golf Club: In its splendidly natural pine forest setting and courtesy of Arnold Palmer's excellent design, The Carolina is home to many excellent holes and attractive golf features. Although maintenance standards can be variable, the immaculate five-star greens need to be mentioned right up front - they are large (sometimes very large), seriously undulating and fast and true; as good as any greens you'll putt on in the Pinehurst area. Between the good-width corridors of mature pines, the often undulating fairways are occasionally crossed or lined by wetland areas, large tracts of sandy waste and excellent bunkering. Real estate is limited around this wonderfully natural course, and the possible noise intrusions from nearby Moore County airport seem minimal, especially as you move deeper into the wooded terrain and away from Airport Road. The usually good-width fairways will give you confidence from the tee, but Palmer has also built in plenty of challenges to test your shot-making and course management. Well placed drives and a sound short game will be needed if you want to avoid the hazards and score well. If its just an enjoyable and visually attractive golf course you are seeking, then The Carolina delivers handsomely on that, while also representing excellent value. Despite the course opening in 1997, The Carolina's clubhouse is still on the drawing board, yet to be built. The current clubhouse is a distinctly two-star facility, but don't let that put you off the delights of this attractive golf course and Palmer's excellent design.
