Millennium Course, Vilamoura

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 2000

Millennium Golf Course (formerly part of the Oceânico Group) is one of five courses in Vilamoura now operated by Dom Pedro Golf. The others are: The Old Course, Laguna, Pinhal and Victoria. The Millennium course, with nine relatively new holes and nine taken from the former 27-hole Laguna course, is clearly one of Vilamoura's busy work-horses, meeting the seemingly insatiable demand for golf on the Algarve.

Laid out in two nine-hole loops, the opening two par-4s take you past "The Residences" and then into the best section of the course, a five-hole anti-clockwise loop through pine trees. Here the Millennium bears some similarities with Vilamoura's magnificent Old Course.

Much of the back-nine loop is relatively unspectacular, with several shortish holes flanked on the right side by apartments, and bushes and small trees (hiding roads) on the left. The finishing pair however, are two of the best holes on the course - water hazards will play on your mind at the 17th tee, and on the approach to the very good par-5 18th.

Throughout, the quality of the greens, fairways and bunkering is good - a reflection of the dedicated green-keeping staff, given the amount of play this course gets. The Millennium shares its welcoming clubhouse with the neighbouring Laguna course.

Did you know?

Now operated by Dom Pedro Golf, five Vilamoura golf courses (The Old Course, Victoria, Laguna, Millennium and Pinhal) were formerly part of the Oceânico Group, a property developer and golf and resort operator in the Algarve. Approximately 30 km northwest of Vilamoura, at their Amendoeira Golf Resort near Alcantarilha, Oceânico still operate the Faldo and O'Connor Jnr courses.

The Millennium course was created in 2000 by adding nine new holes to the former North-nine of the original 27-hole Vilamoura III Laguna course.
