Morgado
Morgado Golf & Country Club: There are few if any golf courses on the Algarve that can measure up to the unspoilt naturalness of this excellent recent addition. With hardly a building in sight, this thoroughly absorbing layout features good-width and excellently maintained fairways, superb greens and much well-placed bunkering.
The front-nine has all the openness of a classic links course, and occupies flattish terrain in full view of the clubhouse. It's on these opening nine holes that you'll encounter the majority of the layout's water hazards. The back-nine follows a classic out-and-back layout with each outward hole flanked by a returning hole. The routing of the second-nine takes you on a slightly more undulating journey into the surrounding open countryside, with a closing stretch that contains some of the layout's most memorable and scenic holes.
The masterplan here no doubt envisages a limited amount of housing development, but as and when it arrives, it is unlikely to detract from the quiet and uninterrupted natural splendour of the surrounding Algarve countryside, and splendid views to distant sierras.
