Ombria Golf Course: designed by Jorge Santana da Silva, the dramatic course at Ombria weaves around ancient rivers and woodland, with plenty of pronounced elevation changes throughout. The two nine-hole loops set-off from Ombria's "hilltop village", where you'll find the castle-like clubhouse, surrounded by many other Portuguese-style buildings. To the east of the village lies the front-nine loop, to the south the back-nine.
At the "turn" of the front-nine, the plunging par-4 3rd and par-3 5th sit side-by-side. Each has a significant drop to their respective greens below. Leading you towards and away from these holes, the opening and closing stretches of the opening loop sit in the valley floor, with water much in play.
The more compact and less expansive back-nine, contains its own share of elevation changes, though not as dramatic as on the front-nine. From the closing stretch of this modern, well-balanced and wonderfully varied layout, you'll enjoy stirring views along a valley to distant hills and mountains beyond.
Pick of the holes: arguably Ombria's most scenic hole is perched at the highest point on the back-nine. The teasing short par-4 15th offers gorgeous views over the rest of the back-nine, while also taking in Ombria’s hilltop village and the Algarve’s classic valley and mountain landscape. Although not the most panoramic of Ombria’s dramatic collection of front-nine holes, the par-4 9th is certainly memorable. With water left and right off the tee, and a long approach into the also water defended green, you’ll need you’re A-game and a strong nerve to succeed at this long par-4.
