The Els Club, Vilamoura

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2004

The Els Club Vilamoura (formerly the Victoria course): when the Victoria course opened in 2004, Arnold Palmer's first design in Portugal added a stylish big dimension layout to Vilamoura's already impressive collection of courses. The course has since been transformed following a substantial Ernie Els redesign in 2023. Coincident with the redesign, it was renamed after the "Big Easy".

Here you will find an expansive modern layout, maintained in superb condition and grand enough to have staged the WGC World Cup of Golf in its early years, as well as the European Tour's Portugal Masters tournament on many occasions. The terrain here is predominantly open, with wonderful rolling fairways and plenty of water hazards, especially on the back-nine.

With many elevated greens, which are both fast and true, you'll need accurate approach work to hit and stay on the excellent putting surfaces. Set a mile back from the coast, there are no sea views as such, although the Algarve scenery provides some pleasant backdrops to several of the holes. From the course you may well see white storks flying in and out of their nearby nesting sites.

Stay&Play at the Victoria Resort: luxury onsite accommodation available, see Where2Stay section below. The Victoria Resort may be able to provide access to the Els Club Vilamoura course.

Did you know?

Operated under the Vilamoura Golf banner since 2023, four Vilamoura golf courses (The Old Course, Laguna, Millennium and Pinhal) were formerly part of Dom Pedro Golf, and before that the Oceânico Group. A fifth Vilamoura course, previously called the Victoria course and part of the same group of courses, is now run separately as The Els Club, a private member-only facility.

In 2005, in only its second year, the Victoria course played host to the WGC-World Cup of Golf. It is now an established tournament course used by the main professional tours. For more details view our Tournaments section >by Venue >Vilamoura (Els Club).
