Kingsbarns
Kingsbarns Golf Links: Although golf at Kingsbarns dates back many generations, it was not until recently that this near neighbour to St Andrews really had something to shout about. In 2000, designer Kyle Phillips etched a fabulous links golf course into this stunningly scenic corner of the Fife coast. The course immediately took its place among Scotland's celebrated elite. After St Andrews' legendary Old Course, it is generally next on the list of "must play" courses for golfers visiting the Kingdom of Fife.
The layout is expansive and undulating, providing ever-present views onto the rugged Fife shoreline and out across the North Sea. Everything you would expect from a top-quality links course is here in abundance. Arranged in two nine-hole loops, the layout's sweeping, rolling fairways are bordered by deep grassy rough, with spectacular bunkering providing solid defences around the large and undulating greens.
Big-hitters will enjoy themselves with good-width landing areas not as constraining as on many links courses. Among many outstanding holes, it is no surprise that two beachside holes, the gently curving par-5 12th and fabulous par-3 15th invariably steal the show.
The quiet, coastal beauty of Kingsbarns is partly a reflection of its wonderfully natural and scenic surroundings. Added to this are the deft touches and authentic links credentials of Kyle Phillips' fabulous design. In combination, the spectacular scenery and sublime layout will have you convinced that Kingsbarns has been around for at least as long as its revered St Andrews neighbours.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends during golf season (April thru' mid-Nov).
Must book in advance. No specific handicap limits, but must be able to keep up with the normal pace of play.

Good
A golf course at Kingsbarns is documented back to 1793, although it disappeared under farmers' ploughs in the mid-1800s. A nine-hole golf course was laid out in 1922, only to disappear again, this time due to disuse during the Second World War.
Golf remained dormant at this site until Kyle Phillips was commissioned to design the present course, which opened in July 2000. Looking eastwards along the cliffs from several of the back-nine holes, you'll be able to see the clubhouse of Crail Golf Club in the far distance.
