Lanark Golf Club: located alongside the town of the same name in the Upper Clyde Valley, Lanark is home to an excellent moorland golf course. Also nearby, although not directly in play, is Lanark Loch. The city of Glasgow lies just 45 minutes to the northwest.
The course is renowned for its gently rolling moorland openness, and wonderfully natural vistas, especially around "the turn". Combining with the views onto Scotland's Southern Uplands, you'll find open, rolling, good-width fairways, and smooth fast greens. Beyond the short grass, as on most moorland courses, there's uncompromising tracts of heather and gorse lying in wait.
The natural greensites come in all manner of shapes and sizes; some are well-bunkered, others less so. Dry moats and false fronts, humps and hollows, ridges and swales, all play their part around the greens. Modern course architects would do well to take note!
The 6,428 yard par-70 layout provides a rewarding challenge to golfers of all abilities and has been host to the R&A on 11 occasions as a regional pre-qualifying venue for the Open Championship. The course is best known for its natural moorland fairways and excellent quality greens, which are generally fast and true ... a joy to putt on.
Pick of the holes: amongst many excellent holes, the gently uphill par-4 14th brings you back to the centre of the course and an elevated green. From here you'll enjoy views over most of the layout, and the moorland beyond. Also memorable, is the par-3 18th, played (somewhat unnervingly) to a square green that sits directly alongside the clubhouse.
Visitors welcome on weekdays; restricted availability at weekends.

Lanark Golf Club was established in October 1851, making it the 25th oldest golf club in the world. At that time the course comprised only six holes laid out on Common Moor in the Royal Burgh of Lanark. Unlike many of the early golf clubs the location of the course has never changed. Golf has now been played on The Moor for almost 160 years.
