Troon Links comprises three municipal links courses (Lochgreen, Darley and Fullarton), which are managed by Golf South Ayrshire on behalf of South Ayrshire Council. The Lochgreen is regarded by many as the best of the Troon Links trio, closely followed by the Darley.
Lochgreen, the longest of the Troon Links courses that stretches to over 6800 yards from the tips, mixes links-style and parkland holes. At times it runs parallel to Royal Troon's Portland course, at others it wraps around its sibling Fullarton layout. For several years the Lochgreen was used as an Open Championship qualifying course.
The Darley course sits to the north of Lochgreen and Fullarton. It opened in 1911 as the third public course in Troon, and was originally called Troon Municipal No. 1. The current course was relaunched in 1951 following its post-war reconstruction. The layout is known as a challenging links layout, with tight fairways lined by plenty of heather, gorse and whins.
The Fullarton course, at just under 5000 yards and with a par of 64, is the shortest of the Troon Links trio. Rounds on the Fullarton often take less than three hours to complete.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

In 1962, a young 22-year-old Jack Nicklaus shot an 82 and then a 68 on the Troon Links Lochgreen course to qualify by one shot for his first ever Open Championship ( ... the Championship's 91st edition, in which Arnold Palmer successfully defended his title).
A number of different golf clubs play on the Troon Links, as their home course. They include Troon St Meddans GC (est. 1909) and Troon Welbeck GC (est. 1973).
