25 km N of Mbombela (Nelspruit).
From Nelspruit take the R40 to White River. Follow the R40 through White River. After 5 km (north of town centre) turn left into Pine Lake Inn Road. Entrance to golf is 1 km on your left.
White River
White River Country Club: Located 6 km north of the farming town of White River, this pleasant golf course comprises two contrasting nine-hole loops. The gently undulating, more natural and older front-nine brings the White River into play on a couple of occasions.
Two of the best early holes, the par-3 5th and par-5 7th, both require a "river crossing" to be made. On the opening hole, a good length par-5, be careful not to hook your drive out-of-bounds and into the White River Golf Lodge (which has been known!).
Tall pines and gum trees are liberally dotted around, lending definition to several fairways and creating some tighter tee-shots, as at the testing par-4 8th hole. With a tree-line that is not too dense, finding and playing your ball after wayward tee shots should not be too problematic.
On the more recently constructed back-nine, real estate is more in evidence, although rarely does it get too close to the fairways to affect your shot-making. You might think that the open environment and good-width fairways on the second-nine will create an easier going feel; however, water hazards are constantly and dangerously in play from the long par-4 10th through to the even longer par-4 14th.
Perhaps the best hole is saved until last, with the par-4 18th played from an elevated tee to a doglegging fairway and then back uphill to the final green.
Although the views from the course are pleasant without being spectacular, and maintenance standards are acceptable without being top-draw, White River is a quiet and enjoyable layout that is more than capable of testing and probing your overall game.

The town of White River (Witrivier in Afrikaans) is a popular holiday destination with those looking to enjoy the splendour of the Crocodile River Valley. The town also has a reputation for its arts and crafts. The White River itself is a tributary of the Crocodile River, the two coming together just north of Nelspruit.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
