Villa Padierna (Flamingos)
Villa Padierna Golf Club - Flamingos course: Excellent upkeep and spectacular views contributed to our four-star rating of the Flamingos golf course. The layout itself however, may give rise to slightly more mixed reviews.
With relatively narrow fairways, starting at the par-5 1st, the front-nine is both tight, tricky and technical. Accurate tee shots are critical and good quality approach play is also be needed.
A mix of water hazards, OB and deep vegetation lie in wait for anything hit off-line. Thankfully there is a tad more room on the stronger back-nine, even though it starts with the ultra-tight par-4 10th - a candidate for the stroke index 1 hole on the entire Costa del Sol.
A distinctly Tuscan feel has been created around the course, with many small cypress trees (and many other species) having been planted. The inclusion of occasional marble columns and statues also gives this undulating layout some distinctly classical touches - all very much in keeping with the palatial "clubhouse", the Hotel Villa Padierna.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Maximum handicap: Flamingos & Alferini - men 27, women 34; Tramores - men & women 48.
Soft spikes only. Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.
