Surrey Downs Golf Club

3+ (3 gold): one of our top-rated 3-star courses, worthy of 3½ stars.
Surrey Downs Golf Club Est. 2001

Where2Golf says:

Surrey Downs Golf Club: Measuring just 6,300 yards off the back tees, this very pleasant parkland course was obviously not intended for professional tournaments, but it will give any club or weekend golfer an excellent workout. With generally long par-3's (countering several short-ish par 4's), a few blind drives to sloping fairways and very unforgiving long grass beyond the semi-rough, Alliss's design contains more than its fair share of golfing challenge. The course is usually in excellent condition and its elevated position in this area of folding downland provides wonderful, but often windy views over the surrounding wooded hills. The twist in the tail, as is often the case, comes at the 18th. This shortish par-5 incorporates a dangerous water hazard in front of a huge roller-coaster double green (shared with the 9th); this is just the sort of hole to wreck an otherwise decent scorecard or decide many a club match play.
