Crownwood
Crownwood Club (The Crown course): unusually for Sweden, this latest hi-end addition to the country's excellent golfing treasure chest is not available to regular green-fee payers. Crownwood's highly-rated Crown course is part of a private member-only facility, with membership only available on an invitation-only basis.
The 18-hole championship "Crown" course is complemented by "Henrik's Playground", which offers an 11-hole less formal golf experience. The publicly accessible "Playground" is designed as a gateway to grow the game and inspire the next generation.
Carved out of a natural coastal pine forest, both courses are set back from and out of sight of the sea (Skälderviken). The 18-hole Crown course possesses a generally open feel. Its wide rolling fairways are frequently flanked by large sandy waste areas.
With limited elevation change, the main challenges of The Crown are to be found in and around the imaginatively crafted greens and green surrounds. Here (and alongside many fairways) you'll find copious areas of sand, often trimmed with deep grassy rough ... eye-catching maybe, but well worth avoiding if you can.
Limited access: this is a private course generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club: outside visitors can play the 11-hole Henrik's Playground course. Guests may only play the 18-hole Crown course if hosted by a member.
Must book in advance.
Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.

Continental Europe's 16th best course (Golf World, 2025).
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7).
After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
