Emirates Golf Club (The Faldo course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1995

Emirates Golf Club (The Faldo course): Nick Faldo's impressively designed course here at Emirates Golf Club (originally called the Wadi course) lays down an excellent golfing challenge under the gaze of the ever-expanding skyline of the Dubai Media City and Dubai Marina developments.

Integral to Faldo's enjoyable and testing design are copious amounts of greenside and fairway bunkering, frequent water hazards and fast, sloping greens that will quickly expose any weaknesses in your putting. The layout juxtaposes the manicured feel of a top-quality resort course with some typically desert-like characteristics - not least a liberal sprinkling of palm trees contained within large, serrated-edged sandy waste areas. A good-sized lake features strongly on the front-nine, with a touch more undulation coming into play on the inward-nine.

The toughest stretch of holes arguably comes on the front-nine, with water in play from tee-to-green along the entire rightside of the par-5 5th and par-4 7th. The exquisite par-3 8th demands a shot to an elevated and concealed green, and to close things out at the halfway point, a testing short par-4 brings the full array of bunkers, water hazards and waste areas into play.

This high quality and challenging layout is a terrific sister course to the Emirates' more renowned Majlis course. It is also a layout where the occupants of countless skyscrapers might just have binoculars to hand and be taking a passing interest in your progress around the course.
