Limestone Springs Golf Club: Nestling in a valley between two ridges of tree-covered hills, the up-market residential development of Limestone Springs can boast a championship golf course that is a delight from first to last.
With unobtrusive villas skirting only a few holes, the course retains all the naturalness and tranquillity of this Appalachian foothills environment. A glimpse from the back tee of the plunging downhill par-4 1st will be enough to whet any golfer's appetite for the round to come.
After this dramatic opening hole, you are eased into the remainder of the front-nine with good-width fairways laid out between towering pine trees. The bunkering is not too severe, but beware the alpine-green lakes and creeks that come into play on several holes.
The water hazards of the front-nine are replaced by dramatically undulating terrain on the back-nine, where many wonderfully crafted holes weave their way through the natural woodland, passing limestone bluffs (cliffs) and rocky outcrops along the way.
One of the most scenic, although toughest tee-shots you'll need to make is at the terrific par-3 12th; the green is protected by a creek to the left and towering pines to the right.
