Sedona Golf Resort

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1988

Sedona Golf Resort: The world-renowned and towering red rock formations of Sedona form the principal backdrop to this wonderfully challenging and dramatically scenic golf course.

On your out-and-back journey around the course, the front-nine gently winds its way up the early slopes of House Mountain, with the equally testing back-nine bringing you back down again to the clubhouse. Along the way you will enjoy fabulous views onto some of the area's most famous and best loved rock formations, not least Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte and the fabulous Cathedral Rock.

Sedona's signature 10th hole awaits at the top of your climb and furthest away from the clubhouse. This good length par-3 is spectacularly framed with the immensely beautiful and distinctive Cathedral Rock rising up in the distance behind the green. Little wonder the hole is included in many listings of the World's Greatest Golf Holes. Cascading back down the hillside, you may feel a few of the remaining par-4's and 5's could be included in the world's "toughest" golf holes list, especially with tight fairways and semi-blind drives greeting you from several tees.

Housing flanks some of the holes here, although never too closely while the often tightish fairways are flanked by cactus and single-berry juniper trees, as well as occasional rocky outcrops and plenty of red-sand bunkering.

Located in Arizona's high desert under the towering southwestern rim of the vast Colorado Plateau, the area around Sedona is one of Arizona's premier tourism, recreation, resort, retirement and art centres. Characterized by massive red-rock formations, as well as the contrasting and spectacular Oak Creek Canyon, the area surrounding Sedona is considered at least as beautiful as many national parks. The cool high desert nights in summer, also attracts many local visitors. The story concerning the naming of Sedona is well known. Theodore Carl Schnebly and his wife, Sedona, moved to this area from Gorin, Missouri. The few ranching families living here convinced T.C. to establish a post office in his large home. Legend has it that he asked the government to name the post office, Schnebly Station or Red Rock Crossing. He was told the names were too long, and following a suggestion by his brother, he submitted his wife's name, Sedona. And so it was. >> Sedona Golf Course is managed and operated by SunCor, one of the leading golf management companies specializing in Arizona golf course management.
