Stevinson Ranch Golf Club: GOLF COURSE WAS CLOSED IN 2015 on a permanent basis.
[Original Where2Golf description]: The Savannah Course at Stevinson Ranch was completed in 1995. In 1996 and 1997 it was already hosting US Open Qualifying tournaments, and garnering many awards. Located in California's San Joaquin Valley (known locally as "The Valley"), there is no denying the quality of design and presentation here. Occupying relatively flat terrain, there is a very open, expansive and linksy feel to the two, anti-clockwise nine-hole loops, with many characteristics inspired by the great links courses of Britain & Ireland.
Stray too far offline from the square-cut tee boxes, and long, knee-high native grasses provide an uncompromising resting place for your ball. A full array of bunkering, small and large, is deployed along the good-width fairways and around the large and seriously sloping greens. Blending into the greens themselves, you will find slick run-off areas that will quickly carry your ball down and away from the putting surface.
Good earthmounding has created some gentle, rolling undulations, as well as plenty of interest around the greens, while many acres of existing wetlands have been preserved and utilised as natural hazards. The closing trio, a par-3, 4 and 5, are all dangerously flanked by a sizeable creek (Adams Ditch).
With flat farmland all around and in the far distance the beginnings of the Sierra Nevada mountains, there is very little housing in view from this wonderfully natural and always challenging course. Unquestionably, one of the best "Jewels of The Valley."
Course permanently closed in 2015.
Walking permitted.
