Bay Point (Nicklaus)
Bay Point Resort Golf Club (Nicklaus course): Just across St Andrews Bay from Panama City, you'll find Bay Point Resort and two top-quality and contrasting championship golf courses. The parkland elegance of the tree-lined Meadow course is eclipsed by the usually higher-rated and more expansively roaming Nicklaus course.
Revamped by the Golden Bear stable in 2005, this out-and-back layout weaves its way through a community of large and discreetly distanced housing. The Nicklaus certainly delivers variety, both on and beyond the course. A more tree-lined mid-section on the back-nine (especially at the par-4 12th and par-4 13th) contrasts with the bayside and more condo-flanked front-nine.
The Nicklaus's par-4 1st and par-3 2nd signal that small lakes and ponds will frequently threaten on this wonderfully crafted, varied and ever-challenging layout. The par-4 4th and 5th holes steal the scenic honours. Both are played alongside the Grand Lagoon where it connects into St Andrews Bay, and offer spectacular bayside views. The signature 5th is a testing short par-4 with a double carry over wetlands, from tee-to-fairway and fairway-to-green.
Large and often seriously undulating greens are defended by a stylish array of bunkers, both small and large, as well as considerable mounding. Like many other holes, the long par-5 9th offers plenty of space from the tee, but also a blind drive, up and over a small ridge. A layout typically characterised by excellent upkeep, variety, challenge and great Nicklaus design work.
Note: Bay Point's Meadows course closed in 2018 following extensive damage caused by Hurricane Michael. The Meadows course was still closed as of 2024. The Nicklaus course remains fully operational.

Excellent
Bay Point's highly-rated Nicklaus course resulted from a significant revamp of the earlier Legends course.
Hurricane Michael, which destructively hit the Florida Panhandle in October 2018, caused severe damage to the Meadows course at Bay Point. Several other courses in the area were also badly affected, and were forced to temporarily or permanently close. Bay Point's higher-rated Nicklaus course fully reopened for play after the hurricane. As of 2024, Bay Point's Meadows course has yet to reopen.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
