Marcus Pointe
Marcus Pointe Golf Club: On the northern outskirts of Pensacola, a couple of miles south of I-10, Marcus Pointe provides a pleasant and challenging golf outing. Weaving through a residential development, the holes are usually laid out in pairs, which helps to maintain a pleasantly natural balance to proceedings, with unobtrusive housing flanking only one side of some holes.
On the flatter front-nine, oaks and pines lightly line the way. Attractive mounding also defines the gently rolling fairways. A significant downhill drop at the par-4 10th signals greater elevation changes on the back-nine. Holes 11 thru' 14 are played on the other side of Marcus Bayou, an offshoot from nearby Crescent Lake, which gets the more undulating and water-defended back-nine off to a pleasing start.
The juxtaposition of discreet housing on one side of several holes and attractive woodland on the other is a frequent feature of the layout. The nicely doglegging, gentle climb of the closing par-4 18th provides for a strong finish, although now with a backdrop of three houses rather than a picturesque stand of trees.
A solid if not outstanding collection of par-3s provide a good challenge, although only the 13th brings water into play.
With its mix of straightaway and doglegging holes, some pleasant elevation changes on the back-nine and a mix of housing and woodland beyond the course, Marcus Pointe is an attractive layout, and one that throws down a good challenge for your allround game.

Nearby Pensacola is the westernmost city on Florida's Panhandle, and was the first mainland North American settlement to be developed by the Spanish. It is sometimes referred to as the "The City of Five Flags," recognising the fact that five different countries have flown their flags over the city in its long history: namely, Spain (Castile), France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America, and the United States of America.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7).
After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
