Marriott's Grande Pines Golf Club: GOLF COURSE PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2014. Marriott's Grande Vista Resort (across International Drive from Grande Pines) remains open, and remains home to a nine-hole golf course and Marriott Golf Academy (formerly a Faldo Golf Institute).
[Original Where2Golf description]: The 18-hole Grande Pines golf course is located just off Orlando's International Drive. Formerly known as the International Golf Club and completely revamped in 2004 by Steve Smyers and Nick Faldo, Grande Pines is an excellent central-Florida layout that brings plenty of bunkering into play on every hole, and small lakes and ponds on many.
Very testing opening tee shot with water running up the right side of a not overly wide fairway. Several other quite tight and testing drives to make on your way round. Plenty of small pine trees and Florida swamp line the holes. Resort condos flank some of the holes, but are generally tucked away behind the pines, allowing the layout to retain a predominantly natural feel. Nicely rolling, tightish fairways, lead you towards fiendishly undulating greens, which are often defended by deep bunkering.
Each hole throws down a strategic challenge that requires the best in your game to score well. Pick of the holes includes the excellent par-4 6th defended by a lake on the left side and the par-4 10th played to a substantially raised and heavily bunker defended green.
This challenging and enjoyable layout, has lots of visual variety and many testing drives, backed-up with significantly mounded and bunkered greens. Water menacingly lurks to the side of several greens.
Course permanently closed in 2014.
Although Marriott's 18-hole Grande Pines golf course is now closed, across International Drive to the east Marriott's Grande Vista Resort remains home to a nine-hole golf course (called Grande Vista Golf Club) and a Marriott Golf Academy (formerly a Nick Faldo Golf Institute).

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
