The Moors Golf & Lodging: GOLF COURSE WAS CLOSED IN 2010, possibly on a permanent basis. Check for current status before planning a visit.
[Original Where2Golf description]: At the western end of Florida's Emerald Coast, around the historic city of Pensacola, you'll find a wonderful variety of golf courses. Arguably the best of these is The Moors, an open, links-style layout in the great Scottish tradition.
Dune-like mounds, accentuated and topped with pampas grass, roll along beside the generally good-width fairways. Plenty of straight-faced pot bunkers will need to be avoided, both from the tee and as you make your approach to the fast-paced, nicely undulating greens. Beyond the layout's open, seemingly treeless environment, a large wetland forest stretches away to the north, ensuring the course maintains a pleasantly natural, out-of-town feel.
Water hazards put in a few telling appearances, not least at the par-4 1st and 18th holes, and also as you weave your way alongside the perimeter woodland in the mid-section of the front-nine loop. This challenging "water defended" stretch runs from the par-4 5th through to the excellent par-3 8th.
As on the best links courses, your full repertoire of shots will be tested on this predominantly open, rolling and wonderfully laid out course. With comfortable onsite accommodation The Moors makes a excellent Stay&Play venue, and a springboard from which to discover the other nearby courses and city of Pensacola ( ... continental America's first European settlement).
Course closed in 2010. Check with club (if and when it reopens, which seems unlikely).
Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted at anytime.

When the 18-hole golf course was operating, The Moors was regularly visited by three PGA Tour professionals who all came from this area. Boo Weekley, Bubba Watson and Heath Slocum all attended the nearby High School in Milton.
The Moors was a host venue for the Champions Tour's Emerald Coast Classic. For more details see Top Golf Tournaments at The Moors GC.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
