Surroundings:
Woodland, wetland and river estuary.
Designer:
In 1999 Tom Fazio combined and updated two of Sea Island's four nine-hole layouts (Seaside & Marshside). This endeavour produced Sea Island's famed Seaside course. The Seaside-nine had originally been designed by Walter Travis (1926), and was completed by Harry Colt and Charles H. Alison (1928). The Marshside-nine was originally designed by Joe Lee (1974).
In 1998 Rees Jones combined and updated the other two Sea Island nine-hole layouts (Plantation & Retreat), to produce the Plantation course.
The three 18-hole championship courses at Sea Island are: Seaside course (par-70; 7055 yds from back tees); Plantation course (par-72; 7058 yds) and Retreat course (par-72; 6490 yds).

Sea Island Resort (Seaside course): The Sea Island Resort on St Simons Island is home to three top-quality championship golf courses. The highly-regarded Seaside course was created in 1999 when Tom Fazio oversaw the combining of the resort's nine-hole Seaside and Marshside layouts. A year earlier Rees Jones had combined the former Plantation and Retreat nines, to form the modern-day Plantation course. The newest of the Sea Island layouts is know as the Retreat course.
Sea Island's Seaside course is one of the top-rated and finest championship layouts in Georgia. The open, predominantly links-style course contains a wealth of wonderfully crafted, memorable and challenging holes. Sandy waste areas, carries over marshland, and greenside bunkering are here in abundance.
Tidal creeks, dunes, salt marshes and the St Simons Sound frame the course, which plays fast and firm, in the tradition of legendary Scottish links. As Sea Island’s best known and most challenging layout, Seaside has hosted many top level national and international events, as well as being a regular stop on the PGA Tour.

At Sea Island, golf legend and Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III learned how to play golf from his golf professional father. It was also here that he practiced with his brother, and introduced the game to his son.

Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
