Kaanapali (Kai)
Ka’anapali Resort (Ka’anapali Kai course): The Ka’anapali Kai and Royal Ka'anapali courses are two well-rated and pleasantly testing resort-style layouts.
Both courses offer scenic ocean and inland mountain views, although both are predominantly set back from the ocean behind the plentiful resort accommodations. Only the long par-4 5th on the Royal course serves-up a true oceanside hole (overlooking May's Beach).
The out-and-back Kai course is a tree-lined and open parkland course that should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. Natural canals, gulches and lava rock boundaries all feature in the design, not least on the closing stretch of four par-4s, with a good-width canal to be crossed in front of the 16th and 18th greens.
Landscaped with native flowers, including hibiscus, bougainvillea and plumeria, as well as Norfolk Pines and coconut trees lining the fairways, the layout offers plenty of golfing challenge in a well-crafted design.

In ancient times Kaanapali, which means "rolling cliffs" in Hawaiian, was a royal retreat for the rulers of Maui. They delighted in the perfect three-mile stretch of white sand beach, the gentle waves, warm sunny days and the inspiring backdrop of the majestic West Maui Mountains. Today the beach is skirted by a boardwalk, condos, hotels, iconic black cliffs and a retail village.
