Black Bear Golf Club: Located in the north-east corner of Louisiana, less than 10 miles from the Poverty Point Historic Park and just north of Delhi (said Del-high rather than Delly). Black Bear is arguably the surprise package of the Audubon Golf Trail.
A little bit off the beaten path, unless you are on the Dallas-Vicksburg-Jackson road, this is a golf course that's well worth making a detour to play. Laid out in a natural environment of open countryside and woodland, there's no houses or roads nearby to disturb your concentration.
The pleasantly undulating terrain, three small lakes, and fabulous fairway and greenside bunkering, creates a course that's full of interest, pleasant scenery and an abundance of golfing challenges. Some holes are played in a relatively open rural setting, while others are more tree-lined.
With top-quality landscaping and plenty of rolling mounds, especially around the good-sized, subtly sloping greens, each hole is excellently crafted. The layout contains as good and as varied a collection of testing par-3s as you'll find in Louisiana.
A great course in a natural setting, and certainly one of the standard-bearers (no pun intended) for the Audubon Golf Trail. But, choose the course length that suits your game wisely. At 7,260 yards from the back tees, this is a black bear that's more than capable of giving your game a mauling.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Black Bear Golf Club is a member of Louisiana's Audubon Golf Trail. The Trail was established in 2001, and includes 18 of the best public-access courses in the state. [See our entry for Audubon Park (Did You Know section) for a list of the Audubon Golf Trail courses].
Located within 10 miles of the golf course is Poverty Point, an ancient monument comprising semi-circular mounds that are situated approx 15 miles from the current Mississippi River. These earthworks, built between 1650 and 700 BC during the Archaic period by a group of Native Americans, were possibly a trading post and/or religious centre.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
