LaTour
LaTour Golf Club: just a short drive from New Orleans, this is an excellent recent addition to Louisiana's already established reputation as a sportsman's paradise ... golf included! Located deep in the tranquillity of bayou country, the course opened for public play in September 2009.
This 7,232-yard championship course designed by Louisianan PGA Tour professional David Toms, is a top-quality and relatively open parkland design. Excellent bunkering and not insignificant water hazards, plus the course's length provide an all round test for your game.
Pick of the holes: a strong contender for the course’s signature hole is the par-3 17th, which is modelled on Royal Troon's 138-yard 8th hole (the "Postage Stamp"). Another memorable hole is the 18th, a 563-yard par-5 that plays entirely uphill.
Visitors welcome on weekdays (Weds-Fri) and weekends. Closed Mon/Tues.
Must book in advance.

La Tour GC is a member of Louisiana's Audubon Golf Trail. The Trail was established in 2001, and includes 18 of the best public-access courses in the state. [See our entry for Audubon Park (Did You Know section) for a list of the Audubon Golf Trail courses].
The driving force behind LaTour Golf Club and neighbouring community was John A. Brady Jr. As a US Army veteran and former telecomms industry entrepreneur, John Brady's love of travel, golf, fishing and other recreational sports combined to create the vision of a golf and country club in this part of Louisiana. He unfortunately died in 2008 before the opening of LaTour, but his spirit lives on in this prestigious facility.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
